30 October (98lbs) Joe Williams w co 7 (20) Billy Johnson, New City Boxing Club, Sheffield, England. Referee: George M. Wells. Made at catchweights with two-minute rounds in place, both boys started well and it was fairly even for the opening six rounds. However, it was clear to see that Williams (96) had been holding his right hand back and in the seventh he finally let it go to send the 17-year-old Johnson (94) crashing downwards to be counted out. Following his win over Johnson, Williams was acknowledged as being the English champion at 98lbs.
