1899-11-08 (145lbs) [[Mysterious Billy Smith]] w pts 20 [[Charlie McKeever]], Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Johnny White. In a return match, the ''New York Herald'' reported that while this contest was made at catchweights it still involved Smith’s claim at 145lbs. Other press reports claimed that McKeever (144) looked to be much heavier than his recorded weight. Making a solid start, McKeever had the better of things early on, but Smith (145) came back strongly and was fighting flat out in the latter stages as he looked to knock his man out. In the 19th round Smith had McKeever badly dazed from right uppercuts before swinging the latter heavily to the floor for a count, and in the final session he had the latter groggy again but was unable to finish it.
