1899-12-11 (133lbs) Joe Gans w pts 15 Kid Ashe, Peoples’ AC, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Referee: George Siler. Made at 133lbs, Ashe, who landed very few clean blows on Gans, was forced to take a steady pounding, being dropped in the third, eighth and 13th rounds. It was only Ashe’s superb conditioning that saved him from a knockout defeat.

Having beaten Steve Crosby over six rounds at the Star Theatre, Chicago, Illinois on 24 November, and then Ashe, Gans claimed the black title at the weight.
