1899-12-15 (138lbs) Eddie Connolly w pts 25 Kid McPartland, Broadway AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Charlie White. Made at 138lbs, Connolly took over McPartland’s American title claim at the weight following his fully deserved points victory. According to the press reports, Connolly was the winner at every stage, blocking McPartland’s left and sending in punches of his own that saw the latter in distress on many occasions. Several times during the bout, McPartland, looking exceedingly tired, went to the floor to escape punishment and in the 21st round he was beaten to his knees by terrific rights to the body before making it to the final bell.
