1900-02-12 (102lbs) Dave Job w co 12 (15) Ted Beach, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England
12 February (102lbs) Dave Job w co 12 (15) Ted Beach, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: H. J. Preston. Billed for the world and English 102lb titles with both men inside the weight, up until the ninth round the fight was relatively even but in that session after Beach had taken several hard knocks, especially to the body, he began to weaken. Although Beach came back well in the tenth it was Job who was doing the better work in the 11th and the former went back to his corner in a dazed state. Continuing with systematic attacks to the body it was all Job in the 12th and after Beach had taken some extremely punishing blows he fell face down where he remained while being counted out.
The winner was challenged by Herbert Rix (April), Frank Exall (who won a championship competition at Wonderland, Mile End, London on 21 April, outpointing Wag Hampton over four rounds), Jim Exall (who won a championship competition, outpointing Frank Morcombe over eight rounds at the Glengall Road Gym, Bermondsey, London on 10 May), Joe Williams (May), Young Spooney (August) and, of course, Harry McDermott, who saw himself as the world champion.
