1900-02-12 (114lbs) Harry Ware w pts 20 Billy Plimmer, Gymnastic Club, Stalybridge, England. Referee: George Dunning. Articled for the 114lbs English title, and a return match, Plimmer (113½) was well in the fight at the halfway stage, but from there on Ware began to make up any lost ground, being by far the stronger of the pair in the second half of the contest. By the 14th it seemed that Plimmer would fail to finish the course, but by the use of clever tactics he just about made it. He even shook Ware up a few times towards the end, although failing to capitalise. Afterwards it transpired that Plimmer had injured his left hand on Ware’s elbow in the sixth, hence the lack of solid straight lefts.
