1900-02-12 (130lbs) Tommy White drew 20 Art Simms, Grand Opera House, Akron, Ohio, USA. Referee: George Siler. Made at 130lbs, with both men inside 128lbs, their previous contest had taken place two months earlier at 126lbs. Although that one also resulted in a draw over 20 rounds, it was stated that Simms looked like a novice at times. This time round, showing great improvement in avoiding the left jab, Simms went after White from the off, hammering him under the heart in the clinches and dropping him with a left to the jaw at the end of round two. The Akron Beacon Journal reported that thereafter both men came up strong for each round, neither being in danger again, other than when Simms was cut over the left eye in the 13th, the draw being a fair result.
According to Siler, writing in the Chicago Tribune, Simms had a good claim to the American 130lbs title on the result while White extended his claim to 128lbs.
