Line 1: Line 1:
26 March (116lbs) [[Johnny Thomas]] w co 13 (15) [[Joe Barrett]], [[NSC, Covent Garden, London]], England. Made at 116lbs, although not billed for the English title, Thomas’ claim at the weight stemmed from the result. For several rounds it was a case of Barrett (114½) doing well with the jab while Thomas (113) bided his time before coming on strong to attack the body in the middle sessions. In the 11th it appeared that Barrett was weakening under sustained attacks downstairs, and although he held Thomas up in the 12th things were beginning to look ominous for him. Under terrific pressure in the 13th Barrett finally wilted. After being put down by a swinging right to the head he just about made it up before a right cross ended his participation for the evening.
