1900-04-12 (126/127lbs) Will Curley w co 1 (20) Jabez White, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Originally billed for the English 126lbs title, but White wanted 128lbs so they split the difference. The opening round began with an exchange of straight lefts before both men went to close quarters. On being cautioned to break White (127) was the first to give way, but before he was out of danger Curley (126) had left-hooked the Birmingham man heavily to the jaw and sent him down to be counted out on the two-minute mark. Immediately afterwards, White claimed that he would never fight at that weight again, having had to shed 19lbs in two weeks, while Curley was happy to claim the English 127lbs title on the result.
