1900-04-26 (134lbs) Tom Ireland w co 8 (20) Harry Greenfield, Wonderland, Mile End, London, England. Referee: Harry Devonport. Made at 134lbs and thought to have been contested over two-minute rounds, despite no title billing it would appear that Ireland’s English title claim at the weight was again on the line in what was a return. Both men quickly got into their stride before Greenfield scored the first big hit when knocking Ireland down in the fourth round. Greenfield’s decision to stand over Ireland throughout the count not only gave the latter more time to recover but also created a lot of dissension in the audience. Making full use of the rest, Ireland came again and was generally going well until being dropped by a right to the jaw in the seventh. Most of the money would have been on Greenfield at this stage of the fight, but halfway through the eighth he was knocked down by a right to the jaw and counted out.
