1900-05-04 (140lbs) Matty Matthews drew 10 Kid Parker, Colorado AC, Denver, Colorado, USA. Referee: Billy Woods. Reported by the Rocky Mountain News to be a billed welterweight title fight, Matthews had recently won the American 142lbs championship when beating Mysterious Billy Smith (w co 19 on 17 April at the Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York) and with both men inside the articled 140lbs his title claim at that weight was also up for grabs. In a short-distance fight, Parker proved to be a useful opponent for Matthews and even though he was dropped in the sixth round by a right swing to the jaw and a body shot he was soon back on his feet, shooting out jabs and punches, as if nothing had happened.
