1900-05-28 (124lbs) Alf Wright w co 6 (20) Jackie Milburn, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: T. Mansell. In a match made at 124lbs, the men made a cautious start before settling down and by the fourth round it was extremely even with plenty of hard hitting on both sides. Although Milburn (124) had gone down in the third he had soon bounced back and at the end of the fifth it was anybody’s fight. In the sixth it again looked as though Milburn was holding up, but having been badly hurt by a right to the body Wright (123½) sent him to the floor to be counted out with a left to the jaw.

Wright claimed the English title at the weight following his win, but failed to make it stick.
