1900-08-09 (126lbs) Kid Broad drew 20 Jack McClelland, Millvale Ball Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Referee: Buck Cornelius. Broad defended his 126lbs title claim in this one, but was lucky to get a draw with McClelland, who appeared to have won with plenty to spare according to the Pittsburgh Gazette. Although there was not a clean knockdown throughout, Broad was constantly being hurt by body blows and always looking to the referee for a foul without response. There was also plenty of clinching, with both men men holding and hitting to advantage, but even when Broad hit the target he was unable to move McClelland.

When Broad was outpointed over six rounds at Tattersall’s, Chicago, Illinois by Terry McGovern on 13 November he could hardly expect to have more recognition than the man who was already recognised throughout America as the 126lbs champion and his claim at the weight appeared to end there.
