1900-11-26 (130lbs) Art Simms w rsc 17 (20) Johnny Whittaker, South End AC, Akron, Ohio, USA. Referee: Johnny Lavack. Made at 130lbs, Simms (130) held on to his American title claim at the weight on defeating Whittaker (128½) in a very fast contest. Whittaker was all but out in the 17th round, following a hard right swing to the jaw that dropped him, and seeing that the fighter was through for the night the referee stopped it.

On 2 January 1901 at the Schlitz Music Hall, Canton, Ohio, Simms knocked out Loudon Campbell in eight rounds, having had all the best of it according to reports. Contested at catchweights, with the individual weights unknown, 11 months earlier Campbell had been an unlucky loser when they met.
