1901-01-28 (158lbs) Dick Burge nc 2 (15) Jerry Driscoll, Standard Theatre, Gateshead, England. Referee: Ed Plummer. Given billing as an English 158lbs title in some quarters, Burge (151) made the early running and after a relatively even first round where there was too much holding the second started in the same vein. However, after both men had been forced down on a couple of occasions, Driscoll (157) rushed Burge and the pair were fighting hard on the ground when time was called. Having warned both fighters throughout, the referee then decided to call the contest off when it was clear that neither man was listening to his commands. For Burge it was his last fight and having spent three months on remand for fraud he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment in February 1902.
