1901-05-24 (170lbs) Marvin Hart w co 7 (25) Dan Creedon, Empire AC, Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Made at catchweights, the unbeaten Hart (170) made a solid start and by the end of the second round he had closed Creedon’s left eye and was already looking to take his man out. Tearing into Creedon (169) in the third, Hart had the New Zealander over for ‘eight’, a left hook doing the damage, but in the next session both were groggy at the bell after vicious lefts and rights to head and body had been exchanged. The fifth saw Hart piling on the pressure as Creedon began to capsize and in the sixth the latter was counted out after a tremendous left hook to the jaw had sent him crashing. Following the fight, Hart was claiming the American 170lbs title and on 6 October challenged the world at the weight.
