17 June (106lbs) Charlie Exall w co 8 (20) Kid Veitch, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: George Dunning. Billed for the English 106lbs title, £25 a side and a £50 purse, the contest started in desperate fashion, Exall (104½) forcing matters from the onset. Having hurt Veitch badly in the sixth round, Exall continued to pile on the pressure before knocking his rival out in the eighth following a right-arm swing to the jaw.
