1901-06-17 (106lbs) Digger Stanley w pts 20 Owen Moran, Stanley Street Assembly Rooms, Birmingham, England. Although both the Mirror of Life and the Sporting Life gave this one as being at 106lbs, later record books suspiciously show it to have been made at 102lbs. Contested over two-minute rounds, which left a lot to be desired, right from the opening bell both men fought in stubborn fashion, with Stanley showing more cleverness to run up a good lead on points. By the two-thirds stage Moran was taking a hard pounding unflinchingly, but he failed to give in. Continuing to show a great heart, in the final session Moran had Stanley groggy despite being unable to finish matters.

Just a week later, on 25 June, Stanley was challenging all England at 105lbs.
