26 August (108lbs) [[Jim Kenrick]] w co 14 (20) [[Kid Veitch]], [[Standard Theatre, Gateshead]], England. Referee: [[Ed Plummer]]. Made at 108lbs, with both men inside the weight at the 1pm weigh-in, despite making a fair start Veitch was soon under pressure and by the fourth round Kenrick was a strong favourite among the backers. At that stage Kenrick was putting everything into his punches and was well on his way to victory before someone put out the gas in the 11th. Not deterred, the referee waited for the lights to be relit before instructing the men to recommence battle. It was soon noticeable that Veitch had very little left and in the 14th two head punches followed by a left to the body sent him down to be counted out. Following this, Kenrick claimed the English title at the weight despite a lack of billing.
