1901-09-23 (142lbs) Rube Ferns w co 9 (20) Frank Erne, International AC, Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Referee: Ed McBride. The Sporting Life and the Philadelphia Item reported that the contest had been made at 142lbs with both men on the weight. Having been knocked down in the first round, it was noticeable that Erne lacked the power of Ferns and after getting up from a long left that had dropped him in the ninth a heavy right sent him down for the full count.
