1901-10-09 (102lbs) Owen Moran w pts 15 Harry Slough, Mafeking Gym, Leicester, England. Referee: Harry Cullis. Billed for the English 102lbs title and contested over two-minute rounds, both men showed good form and shared the lead evenly almost to the end as first one took control and then the other. Having started aggressively, Moran had more joy at distance as Slough met him blow for blow, but in the 14th the latter was badly hurt by a body blow and although he fought on gamely the last two rounds cost him the decision.

With Moran gaining in weight, apart from Dave Job and Joe Williams in January 1902, other men to challenge all England at 102lbs included Jim Exall (March 1902), Jim Glover (August 1902), Wimbledon’s James Freeman (December 1902) and Dummy Forrest (November 1903).
