1901-10-10 (158lbs) George Green w disq 6 (10+) Tommy Ryan, Jackson County Democratic Club, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Made at 158lbs, with both men inside, Ryan was winning easily until accidentally striking Green (147) with his knee after knocking him down in the sixth and being ruled out. Scheduled for ten rounds, or until a decision could be reached, with Ryan’s title claim at the weight obviously at stake one can only assume that Green took it over. Ryan had been the aggressor throughout and had slightly the better of proceedings, often cornering Green and pounding away without respite. Although Green frequently countered Ryan’s persistent onslaughts, being worn down gradually, he would have been hard pressed to have gained a victory by any other route.
