1901-10-28 (134lbs) George Cunningham w pts 10 Harry Greenfield, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England
1901-10-28 (134lbs) Young George Cunningham w pts 10 Harry Greenfield, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Made at 134lbs, although not over the championship distance Greenfield’s English title claim at the weight would have been at stake. There was little to chose between them at any time, with Cunningham favouring the body and Greenfield visiting the face and several opportunities were lost due to the action being wild at times. Prior to the eighth getting underway the Sporting Life reporter felt that Greenfield had a slight lead and although the last three sessions saw the latter appearing to do the better work it was Cunningham who was handed the decision. Dropping down to 132lbs to fight Bob Russell on 28 April 1902, Cunningham lost and was not heard from again. Around this time another 134lbs man coming through was Ernie Veitch, who won a couple of championship competitions at Wonderland, Mile End, London, outpointing Bill Corbett over six rounds on 25 November and knocking out Joe Scott in the first round on 8 February 1902.
