1901-11-04 (106lbs) Charlie Exall w co 6 (20) Matt Precious, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Ed Plummer. Billed for the English 106lbs title held by Precious (104), Exall (104) made most of the running, opening a cut above his rival’s left eye in the second round. Keeping up the pressure, Exall dropped Precious with a terrific right to the jaw, and although the latter got up the end was in sight. Thereafter, Exall worked the body, which paid dividends in the sixth when a solid left to the ribs sent Precious down to be counted out while on one knee.

Following the bout, Harry McDermott objected to it carrying title billing as, in his eyes, Precious had forfeited the title when he refused to go through with their planned-for championship fight of an earlier date.
