1901-12-17 (170lbs) Wild Bill Hanrahan w co 1 (25) Marvin Hart, Empire AC, Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Referee: Tim Hurst. Reportedly carrying the American 170lbs championship, Hanrahan was out of the blocks quicker than Hart and a right-hand smash to the back of the neck soon had the latter on the floor. Getting up in a dazed condition, Hart took another hurtful blow to the body before Hanrahan sent in a left to the same region and followed it up with a right hook to the jaw that sent the American to the floor to be counted out. All over after about one and a half minutes, the winner claimed the title on the result and in the16th January edition of the Sporting Life was recognised as the world champion at the weight.
