1902-02-13 (116lbs) Andrew Tokell w pts 20 Harry Ware, New Adelphi Club, The Strand, London, England. Referee: Robert Watson. Billed for the English 116lbs title with six-ounce gloves in use, this was a fast and exciting bout from beginning to end, both men having their moments. By the fifth round it was clear that Ware was feeling the effects of Tokell’s body blows, especially the right hand to the side, and although he fought back well he was gradually being slowed. From the 12th onwards it looked as though Ware would fail to go the distance, but such was his fortitude that he kept going regardless, even trying to force the fight at times, and despite losing the verdict he had played his part in a fight to remember.
