1902-03-06 (140lbs) [[Tom Couhig]] w pts 20 [[Matty Matthews]], Whittington Park Arena, Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA. With the match articled for 140lbs, Couhig automatically took over Matthews’ claim at the weight on the result. Seeing that it was going to be an uphill battle, Matthews resorted to fouling early on and in the third round after Couhig had been given time out when a low blow had floored him, he was told by the referee that any further transgressions would see his purse going to charity. It was a good win for Couhig, who came back from that to drop Matthews six times in all.
