1902-04-12 (156lbs) Jack Palmer w co 11 (20) Joe White, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Made at catchweights, Palmer (156), who was restricted to 158lbs, looked to be in the pink of condition at the start while White (154½) appeared drawn. The fight started with White going with the left hand, but it was quickly apparent that Palmer was the stronger man and at the end of the third round he landed a terrific right to the head just as the bell went. From there onwards, White did much holding, showing a lot of cleverness as he slipped punches, but in the 11th Palmer finally got a reward for his aggression when dropping his rival to the boards with a terrific blow to the pit of the stomach. Although White called for the foul, the referee overlooked his pleas and continued to count him out, an action that was followed by Palmer claiming the English title at the weight.
