1902-05-12 (116lbs) Andrew Tokell w pts 10 Jim Williams, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Billed for the English 116lbs title, prior to the new NSC ruling of restricting all bouts to less than ten-rounds duration the articles had been initially signed for 20 rounds. Almost from the start it could be seen that Tokell would be making the body his target and due to these tactics it was not long before he received severe damage to his left eye when Williams crashed into him. With Williams trying to avoid the body blows there was far too much clinching throughout the contest, the referee constantly having to pull the fighters apart. There was little between them at the final bell, but the verdict went Tokell’s way due to his marginally higher work rate.
