1902-05-12 (135lbs) Joe Gans w co 1 (20) Frank Erne, International AC, Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Referee: Charlie White. Billed for the world lightweight title at 135lbs, Gans (133¼) made a cautious start before smashing in a hard right to Erne’s ear. There was no doubt that Erne (132½) was both dazed and bewildered, and Gans immediately drove in a left-right to the jaw, a punch that sent the 133lbs champion to the floor to be counted out on the 1.40 mark.
