1902-06-23 (144lbs) George Penny w pts 10 Peter Brown, New Adelphi Club, The Strand, London, England. Billed for the English title (thought to be 140 to 144lbs) and Coronation Championship Belt, it was Penny who started the better of the pair with long left leads scoring consistently. After five rounds, with Penny ahead, Brown began to cut back the deficit when picking up the pace before eventually tiring from his efforts. Some rousing fighting took place in the last two rounds with Brown on the front foot, but it was Penny who received the unanimous decision, the judges recognising his excellent left-hand work.
Cut from 15 to ten rounds in view of Penny being a substitute for Jim Maloney, the result carried no weight at all for the winner.
