1902-06-23 (160lbs) Jack Palmer w co 7 (20) Dave Peters, Prince of Wales Circus, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. Referee: Tom Davies. Billed for the English 160lbs title and articled for two-minute rounds to be in place, most aficionados ruled it out as a championship contest while the Cardiff Evening Express reported the result as an eight-round kayo in an eliminator for the English championship. It was only in the first and second rounds that Peters appeared to have a chance reported the Sporting Life and from there onwards Palmer began to pile up the points with a strong left lead. That the fight lasted as long as it did was entirely due to appeals for fouls and unsportsmanlike behaviour on behalf of Peters’ supporters claimed the paper. On two occasions Peters, who was almost finished and had been knocked out of the ring, gained three or four minutes respite due these tactics. It could not carry on like this and in the seventh it was all over for Peters after a solid right-left sent him down to be counted out.
