Line 1: Line 1:
1902-06-24 (158lbs) Tommy Ryan w rsc 3 (15) Johnny Gorman, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Charlie White. Billed as a world title bout despite the Articles of Agreement calling for catchweights, it was Ryan (151) who started the better, showing great cleverness when countering Gorman (158) solidly during the opening session. The second round was full of good work from both men before Ryan stepped up the pace in the third and after landing a terrific left hook to the head, followed by several severe body blows and a right cross to the jaw, Gorman was sent to the floor before being rescued by the referee.
