1902-08-30 Denver Ed Martin w co 4 (10) Frank Craig, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Sam Francis. Billed for the ‘black’ title, Martin, who had met Craig just two weeks earlier, was again contracted to stop his rival inside ten rounds. Having been dropped twice in the second round Craig came back strongly towards the end of the session to stagger his fellow-American, and although he got through the third without too many problems he was soon under pressure in the fourth. After going down without taking a punch early on, following another visit to the canvas from a right to the jaw a similar blow sent Craig crashing to be counted out moments later.

That was Martin’s last contest in England before returning to America, where he next risked his claim against Bob Armstrong (nd-w pts 6 at the Penn Art Club, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 10 December). Some reports give this as a six-round no-contest.
