1902-09-15 (158lbs) Tommy Ryan w co 6 (20) Kid Carter, International AC, Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Referee: George Siler. Billed for the championship at 158lbs, Ryan successfully defended his American title claim at the weight when knocking out Carter in the last minute of the sixth round. There was no doubting that Carter was a dangerous opponent and Ryan had to be careful as he looked for openings. In the third a glancing left to the head sent Carter down and having gradually taken the steam out of him Ryan went to work in the sixth and soon had his man down for ‘nine’ from heavy right to the jaw. Following a further knockdown, Carter just about made it to his feet before the final blow of the fight, another heavy right to the jaw, put his lights out.
