1902-09-29 (126lbs) George Dixon drew 15 Will Curley, Standard Theatre, Gateshead, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Although a contest made at 124lbs, plus or minus two pounds, it was the 126lbs championship that was involved in this one, and while the weights were never announced the men were said to be inside. Extremely evenly contested there could only ever be one result. While Curley had the longer reach, making full use of it whenever he could, with the veteran Dixon using both hands there were some great exchanges between them from first to last. According to the Articles of Agreement, Curley had undertaken to stop Dixon or lose his stake money which is what happened. However, although the result was given as a draw under the rules of the day Curley should have been given the decision on points.
