1902-10-09 (136lbs) Bill Chester w disq 13 (20) Jim Maloney, National AC, Marylebone, London, England. Professor Murray. Billed for the English 136lbs title, it was not generally recognised as such due to the fact that it was contested over two-minute rounds. Nevertheless, there was plenty of action as the boys went to work, both of them making the body their number one target, and in the early rounds Maloney was sent to the boards on three occasions. It soon became a scrambling affair with the referee constantly pulling the men apart, but in the ninth Chester showed his aggression when punching Maloney all over the ring. In the 12th Chester seemed the stronger of the two and whenever danger threatened Maloney would clinch. The latter was also reprimanded for going low. Groggy at the end of the session, Maloney came out hard in the 13th, but after landing several borderline blows he sent in another low one and was immediately disqualified.
