1902-10-21 (120lbs) Andrew Tokell w rtd 11 (20) Harry Paul, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Billed for the English 120lbs title, Tokell made a bright start to dominate Paul, who quickly resorted to holding tactics before being dropped by a right to the body on the bell to end the second. Floored by rights to the jaw in the third and fourth, Paul looked as though he was not going to last very long, but he came back well with lefts to Tokell’s face in the fifth and sixth sessions. The next three rounds were more even as Paul fought back well with lefts and rights after Tokell appeared to take a breather. However, Tokell resumed business in the tenth, although unable to finish his rival off. Finally, in the 11th, Tokell found the punch he was looking for when dropping Paul with a stinging right-hand blow under the heart to force the count-out.
Following this victory, with Tokell continuing to fight at lower weights he never got round to defending his newly won claim.
