25 October (108lbs) Harry McDermott w co 8 (15) Tibby Watson, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Sam Francis. Reported in some places as being for the world 108lbs title, McDermott proved to be too good for Watson despite the Australian having made a bright start. Watson was dropped by a solid uppercut to the jaw in the fourth and fighting on gamely he lasted until the eighth when was counted out after being floored by a heavy right to the jaw. On winning in such favourable circumstances, McDermott strengthened his position at the weight.
In early January 1903, the Sporting Life reported that Digger Stanley should be recognised as the British and world 108lbs champion.
