1902-11-15 (106lbs) Harry McDermott w pts 15 Jim Kenrick, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Sam Francis. Billed for the English 106lbs title, McDermott made an excellent start when forcing the fight and keeping the pressure on Kenrick with solid blows to head and body knocking the stuffing out of the latter. However, from the halfway mark Kenrick came right back into it, and from there on in McDermott was made to fight every inch of the way to maintain his lead.
Afterwards, Kenrick announced that it had been such a struggle to make the weight for McDermott that he would be fighting in a higher weight class in future.
On 31 January 1903, at Ginnett’s Circus, Dave Job knocked out McDermott inside four rounds of a fight made at 107lbs. There was no title billing attached and McDermott later admitted that he had taken a ‘dive’.
