15 December (116lbs) [[Joe Bowker]] w pts 15 [[Harry Ware]], [[NSC, Covent Garden, London]], England. Referee: [[J. H. Douglas]]. Billed for the English 116lbs title, £100 a side and a £100 purse, it was fairly slow to start with, the men having yet to decide their best plans of campaign. It warmed up in the third round, both countering well, and continued at speed with Bowker having the better of the exchanges. The agility of Bowker had to be seen to be believed, as he drove in punches and escaped without being caught. By the ninth Ware was tiring, but his right hand was still working hard and he was still holding his own. Coming out for the final session, speculation was rife as to who was winning and although Ware made a good showing it was Bowker’s hand that was eventually raised.
