1902-12-22 (128lbs) Will Curley w co 8 (20) George Proctor, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Jim Gibson. Although billed for the English 128lbs title, the fight was not taken too seriously as the £100 purse was seen to be too low for a championship contest. Despite that it did not stop Curley from putting paid to any hopes that Proctor may have cherished. The pronounced superiority of Curley was demonstrated right from the start, and Proctor showed wonderful gameness against all odds to keep in the fight when taking a non-stop battering from head to body. Several times he was sent to the boards in the sixth, and after holding on for dear life to get through the seventh he was finally knocked out by a severe body blow in the eighth.

That seems to be it as far as Curley was concerned, his retirement being announced early in 1903.
