1903-02-09 (140lbs) Spike Sullivan w co 1 (15) Jim Maloney, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. In a billed world title fight at 140lbs with both men inside, Maloney was counted out inside 61seconds after taking a solid blow to the body. Afterwards Maloney, feeling that he had been fouled, was still furious that the fight was over and although the Sporting Life called for a rematch it never came off. While this spelt the end of Maloney’s title aspirations, Pat O’Keefe (May), Jack Bayley (June) and Peter Brown (October) challenged all England.
