Billed for the English 94lbs title, after a slow start Sullivan (77) began to take on board a great deal of punishment as Sloane (80) laid into him, throwing punches from head to body. Although outclassed, the Londoner gamely stayed on to the end of the seventh round before being retired by his corner. Following this, Sloane challenged all at the weight.
