1903-03-30 (127/128lbs) Dick Lee w rtd 9 (15) Jack Roberts, Wonderland, Mile End, London, England. Referee: Robert Watson. Contested over three-¬minute rounds at 127lbs, Lee (126½) started with the straight left and continued popping it in and out of Roberts’ face for several rounds without response. Becoming exasperated with a man who did all his work on the outside, Roberts (125) finally caught up with Lee in the fifth round, dropping him with a right to the body. The ex-amateur was soon up and busy again, this time using a right to the jaw that found Roberts’ face time and again before the latter retired to his corner during the ninth, exclaiming that he was done for. With Will Curley retired, Lee’s English title claim at 128lbs was fairly strong and he was soon challenging the world at the weight.
