1903-04-13 (105lbs) Matt Precious w pts 15 Ernie Godwin, Warwickshire Horse Repository, Birmingham, England. Referee: George Dunning. Although billed as an English 105lbs title fight, Godwin insisted that it was the 110lbs world championship that was on offer at £100-a-side. However, that did not bother Precious, who merely stepped down to a more comfortable weight. Both made a slow start but in the third round Precious took advantage of a defensive lapse to drop Godwin with a right to the head. It remained fairly even up until the tenth when Precious began to work the body and continuing with this tactic, while occasionally going to the head, he often had Godwin in some distress, although the latter gamely made it through to the final bell.
