1903-04-28 (133lbs) Jimmy Britt w pts 20 Willie Fitzgerald, San Francisco AC, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Ed Graney. Billed for the American ‘white’ 133lbs lightweight title, with both men making the weight, following terrific right hands to the head the second round saw both on the deck. After that Britt relied almost entirely on body blows, while Fitzgerald was forced to go with the left, having damaged his right mitt when scoring the knockdown. There was no doubting Fitzgerald’s toughness, as he seemed to enjoy taking blows to the head without flinching, but it was Britt’s fight despite him being floored again, in the 20th.
