1903-06-13 (133lb) Jimmy Britt drew 20 Jack O’Keefe, Sutton’s Theatre, Butte, Montana, USA. Advertised for the 133lbs ‘white’ lightweight title, despite no knockdowns it was both fast and furious with honours appearing to be even in line with the referees’ decision. Britt felt he would have won the contest had he not broken two bones in his right hand in the second round, an injury that forced him to fight with one hand from thereon. Britt also had to rely on body blows as well and was warned several times for going low, with the Sheriff, who jumped into the ring in the third round, warning him that if he continued to go low the fight would be stopped. Following the result Britt demanded that Joe Gans prove his ability to make the same weight.
