1903-07-22 (130lbs) Young Corbett w pts 10 Jimmy Briggs, Tammany AC, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
1903-07-22 (130lbs) Young Corbett w pts 10 Jimmy Briggs, Tammany AC, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Made at 130lbs, Briggs was satisfied to let Corbett do most of the forcing throughout the fight. It was clear that Corbett had the power, but Briggs stayed in the contest by keeping away from terrific swings while showing little ambition. In the seventh round, Corbett, going all out for a stoppage, carried on the momentum right through to the final bell without damaging Briggs to any great effect.
Three more contests in 1903 where Corbett allowed his opponents to be inside 130lbs while he was heavier, came against Billy Maynard (nd-w co 1 at the Industrial Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 24 July), Tim Callahan (nd-w pts 6 at the National AC, Philadelphia on 21 October) and Hugh Murphy (w co 11 at the Criterion AC, Boston on 27 October).
