1903-08-13 (116lbs) Frankie Neil w co 2 (20) Harry Forbes, Mechanics’ Pavilion, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Ed Graney. Billed for the world 116lbs title with both men inside, Neil gained perfect revenge for their previous contest when dropping Forbes twice in the second round with body punches before finishing him off as he was in the act of rising from the second count. There was much confusion after Forbes was counted out, his corner claiming a foul due to their man still being in a kneeling position when hit, but the result stood.

It is now known that Neil’s next contest, a 15-round kayo win over Billy DeCoursey at Hazzard’s Pavilion, Los Angeles, California on 4 September, which was once thought to have been title defence, was contested at 122lbs and should be now classified as a featherweight bout.
